Most fantasy managers probably will want nothing to do with the Denver Broncos defense/special teams after they allowed 32 points and 385 yards of total offense to the Las Vegas Raiders in the Week 4 loss. The Broncos D is tied for 18th in the league through four weeks with 21 overall points. The good news is they've allowed the fourth-fewest total yards per game (284.8), the fifth-fewest passing yards per game (170.8) and the fifth-fewest yards per game (17.0) in the early going. They'll be facing an Indianapolis Colts offense on Thursday night that has posted just 339.8 total yards per game and the fewest points per game (14.3). The Colts have also turned the ball over nine times (tied for second-most) and could be without one of the best RBs in football in Jonathan Taylor (ankle).
Denver Broncos kicker Brandon McManus hasn't done a whole lot for fantasy managers the last two weeks after making six of his seven field-goal tries in Weeks 1 and 2. In the last two weeks, though, he's made just two of three field-goal attempts and has missed one of his three extra-point tries. The 31-year-old will be kicking in altitude again this week on Thursday Night Football, though, so hopefully he'll be worth it for fantasy managers looking to stream him at the position against the Indianapolis Colts. The Colts have allowed only 5.8 fantasy points per game to kickers in four weeks, and their defense is allowing an average of 21.3 points per game. Through four games, McManus is tied for 16th with Matt Gay at the kicking position in terms of total fantasy points with 28.
Denver Broncos wide receiver KJ Hamler caught his first pass of the season in the Week 4 loss to the division-rival Las Vegas Raiders -- a 55-yard hookup with quarterback Russell Wilson. Hamler has already missed one game this year due to injury and has caught one of his two targets. While he will have some deep connections with Wilson down the field in 2022, he isn't a reliable option in fantasy just yet. Hamler played just eight percent of the offensive snaps in last week's loss. The 23-year-old speedster is currently rostered in just two percent of Yahoo leagues. The Broncos shaky offense so far has barely been able to support two fantasy relevant receivers in Courtland Sutton and Jerry Jeudy.
It's not a good sign that Denver Broncos tight end Albert Okwuegbunam has just two more receptions (six) than receiver Kendall Hinton through the first four games of the season. Okwuegbunam also has only four more targets (10) than fellow tight end Eric Saubert, who has also scored a touchdown. The bottom line is that Albert O has been a pretty big disappointment in real life and fantasy early in the season, as he has just six catches for 45 yards. The 24-year-old played just one offensive snap in the Week 4 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders and cannot be trusted at all in starting fantasy lineups. He's currently rostered in 33 percent of Yahoo leagues, but that number is likely to drop before Thursday night's Week 5 game against the Indianapolis Colts.
Denver Broncos wide receiver Courtland Sutton leads the team in catches (24), targets (35) and receiving yards (343) through the first four weeks of the 2022 season as quarterback Russell Wilson's go-to option in the passing game. That should continue on Thursday night in a Week 4 matchup against the Indianapolis Colts. Sutton caught five of his seven targets in Sunday's loss to the Las Vegas Raiders and found the end zone for the first time this season. He's averaging 14.3 yards per catch and 85.8 yards per game so far. The Colts defense has been pretty stingy against opposing wideouts so far in 2022 -- they've allowed the fourth-fewest fantasy points per game in half-point PPR scoring -- but Sutton remains a strong WR2 for fantasy managers as the top passing target in Denver's offense.
Denver Broncos wide receiver Jerry Jeudy caught his second touchdown pass of the season in the Week 4 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders. It was a nice bounce-back performance after going for just three catches on nine targets for 28 yards in Weeks 2 and 3. He currently ranks third on the team in catches (11), third in targets (21) and second in yards (183), but he should be a little more involved moving forward with running back Javonte Williams (knee) done for the year. The 23-year-old should be a decent WR3/flex for fantasy managers despite a tough matchup on paper against an Indianapolis Colts defense that is giving up the fourth-fewest fantasy points per game in half-point PPR leagues to opposing wideouts.
Denver Broncos running back Mike Boone will have a larger role in Week 5 against the Indianapolis Colts on Thursday night and for the rest of the season after lead back Javonte Williams (knee) suffered a season-ending torn ACL in the Week 4 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders. Melvin Gordon III is fully expected to lead Denver's backfield going forward, and the team also signed veteran Latavius Murray off the Saints practice squad this week. Boone rushed for 20 yards on three carries against the Raiders, but he also struggled in pass protection. The 27-year-old might be worth a waiver-wire pickup for RB depth in deeper leagues, but he'll be an RB4/flex, at best, on Thursday night behind Gordon. If Gordon continues to have fumbling issues -- he's fumbled five times in the team's last five games -- Boone's role could grow.
Indianapolis Colts All-Pro linebacker Shaquille Leonard (concussion, nose), who has already been ruled out for Thursday night's game against the Denver Broncos after suffering a concussion in the Week 4 loss to the Tennessee Titans, is also dealing with a broken nose. Head coach Frank Reich said the broken nose could impact his return to the lineup separately from the concussion, but the team can't determine that until the significant swelling subsides and doctors can see the extent of the damage. Leonard was making his season debut last Sunday after having offseason back surgery, and now he'll miss another game in Week 5 due to his concussion and broken nose. The 27-year-old won't be a lock to return in Week 6 against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Tyler Lockett is off to a solid start in 2022, having caught 27 passes for 302 yards through four games. Lockett will look to find the end zone for the first time in 2022 against the New Orleans Saints on the road in Week 5. The Saints are allowing the 12th-most fantasy points per game to opposing wide receivers through four games in 2022. Lockett is going to have some up-and-down weeks but he remains on the board as a high-end WR3 for fantasy.
Seattle Seahawks wide receiver D.K. Metcalf caught seven of his 10 targets for 149 yards in a Week 4 win over the Detroit Lions. Metcalf came into the game with just 135 receiving yards through three games and more than doubled that total against Detroit. He will look for another big performance against the New Orleans Saints in Week 5. The Saints are allowing the 12th-most fantasy points per game to opposing wideouts in 2022. Metcalf went for 118 yards and a touchdown back when he played the Saints in 2021, despite drawing primary coverage from star corner Marshon Lattimore. He clocks in as a low-end WR2 in Week 5.
Seattle Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith was impressive in a Week 4 win over the Detroit Lions, completing 23 of his 30 passes for 320 yards and two touchdowns while adding 49 yards and another score on seven carries. Smith will look to keep it going against the New Orleans Saints on the road in Week 5. The Saints have been solid against opposing quarterbacks in 2022, allowing the eighth-fewest fantasy points per game to the position through four games. Smith doesn't have the name-brand value of some of the other quarterbacks but he has played well enough to be treated as a mid-range QB2 in fantasy for Week 5.
Seattle Seahawks running back Rashaad Penny had a breakout game against the Detroit Lions in Week 4, rushing 17 times for 151 yards and two touchdowns while catching a six-yard pass. Penny will look to keep it going in Week 5's road matchup against the New Orleans Saints. The Saints have been tough on enemy running backs in 2022, allowing the sixth-fewest fantasy points per game to the position through four games. Penny reminded everyone in Week 4 of how explosive he can be and is worth starting as an upside flex play in Week 5.
San Francisco 49ers offensive tackle Colton McKivitz (knee) suffered a sprained MCL in Monday night's win over the Los Angeles Rams. McKivitz had been filling in for Pro Bowl left tackle Trent Williams, who has a high-ankle sprain. Head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters that McKivitz is going to be "out a while" following the injury. The 49ers are now down to their third left tackle of the season, Jaylon Moore, who will be asked to cover quarterabck Jimmy Garoppolo's blind side, starting in Week 5 against the Carolina Panthers.
The Indianapolis Colts signed kicker Chase McLaughlin from the practice squad on Tuesday and released Dezmon Patton in a corresponding move. McLaughlin appeared in 16 games for the Cleveland Browns in 2021 and has already kicked in three games for the Colts in 2022, hitting three of his four field goals. The veteran kicker will stick around as a more permanent member of the team, at least for the time being, as the Colts have called him up from the practice squad the maximum number of times in 2022. McLaughlin showed shaky accuracy with the Browns in 2021 and kicks for a Colts offense that has struggled, making him tough to trust in fantasy.
The New York Giants worked out quarterback Jake Fromm on Tuesday. The Giants are dealing with injuries to each of their top two quarterbacks as Daniel Jones has an ankle injury and Tyrod Taylor is in the league's concussion protocol. Fromm was in town as a contingency plan in case neither Jones nor Taylor is able to take the field in Week 5 against the Green Bay Packers in London. Fromm appeared in three games for the Giants in 2021, completing 27 of his 60 passes for 210 yards, one touchdown, and three interceptions.
The Arizona Cardinals released wide receiver Andy Isabella on Tuesday. Isabella was the team's second-round pick back in 2019 and finishes his Arizona career with 33 catches for 447 yards and three touchdowns over 39 games. Arizona selected Isabella with the 62nd overall pick in the 2019 draft, two picks ahead of D.K. Metcalf and four picks before Diontae Johnson. The Cardinals had been trying to trade Isabella for months but they will instead cut bait. They filled Isabella's roster spot by signing center Billy Price off of the Las Vegas Raiders' practice squad. Isabella has a 4.31 40 time and is likely to draw some interest around the league.
Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor (ankle) told reporters that he is hoping to play through a sprained right ankle in Thursday night's game against the Denver Broncos. Taylor twisted his ankle in a Week 4 loss to the Tennessee Titans and has been "rehabbing furiously" since the injury in attempts to get on the field for Thursday. "I definitely do plan to play, but if you can't go, you can't go," he told reporters on Tuesday. Taylor has not participated in either of his team's two practices this week. If Taylor does ultimately suit up, then he should be in fantasy lineups. If he sits, look for a combination of Nyheim Hines, Deon Jackson, and Phillip Lindsay to split the backfield.
Baltimore Ravens running back Justice Hill (hamstring) is expected to be sidelined for an unknown amount of time, according to head coach Jim Harbaugh. The team doesn't believe it's a serious injury, but they haven't given a timetable for his return. It's a hamstring injury and those do have a tendency to linger. Fantasy managers who were planning on using Hill this week should look for another option. The Ravens will use the backfield of J.K. Dobbins with Kenyan Drake and Mike Davis for Sunday's game against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Philadelphia Eagles kicker Jake Elliott (leg) has a chance of suiting up in Week 5, according to Eagles special teams coordinator Michael Clay. The team has praised Elliott's toughness and are optimistic that Elliott will be able to suit up against the Arizona Cardinals. However, the team has signed Cameron Dicker to the 53-man roster as insurance in case Elliott is unable to play. Fantasy managers who are rostered Elliott will have to check back later this week for another update on his status.
Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Keenan Allen (hamstring) is currently considered day-to-day after missing each of the last two weeks. It sounds like Allen was progressing well, but suffered a setback late last week which caused him to sit out in Week 4. The organization continues to be cautious with Allen, so fantasy managers won't have a better idea on his status until later in the week. Fantasy managers shouldn't count on his return for the Week 5 matchup against the Cleveland Browns.
