Adding to a rotation that was shaky beyond the top two, the Arizona Diamondbacks agreed to a four-year, $80 million contract with left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez, multiple media outlets reported Wednesday night.

Rodriguez, 30, spent the past two seasons with the Detroit Tigers, vetoing an in-season trade that would have sent him to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

He went 13-9 with a 3.30 ERA in 26 starts this year, the fifth time he posted double-digit wins in his eight major league seasons.

Rodriguez signed a five-year, $77 million with the Tigers in November 2021, but he opted out of the last three years and $49 million to hit free agency this winter.

The move apparently paid off with the Arizona agreement.

Rodriguez pitched for the Boston Red Sox from 2015-19 and in 2021, sitting out the 2020 season because of a heart condition. He helped the Red Sox win the 2018 World Series, then went 19-6 with a 3.81 ERA in 34 starts the following year.

In 202 career games (196 starts), Rodriguez has a career 82-53 record with a 4.03 ERA. He has 1,107 strikeouts and 376 walks in 1,100 1/3 innings.

The Diamondbacks advanced to the World Series this year even though their rotation was shaky behind right-handers Zac Gallen and Merrill Kelly.
