MLB.com's Christina De Nicola reports that Miami Marlins right-hander Edward Cabrera (elbow) will make his next start on Tuesday versus the visiting San Diego Padres. Right-hander Eury Perez will get the ball for the series opener on Monday, while right-hander Sandy Alcantara will start in the series finale on Wednesday. Cabrera was pulled from his final start of the first half of the season last Friday with elbow discomfort after going four innings. Thankfully, the 27-year-old doesn't have any structural damage in his arm and will take his next turn in the rotation following the All-Star break. The Dominican hurler enters the second half with a 3.61 ERA and 1.26 WHIP with 86 strikeouts in 82 1/3 innings over his 16 starts for the Fish. Cabrera will be a bit more risky than normal on Tuesday, but he'll also be facing a Padres offense that ranks only 23rd in team OPS (.690) this year.
From RotoBaller
New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso (hand) has a "right-hand contusion" near the base of his thumb, according to manager Carlos Mendoza. The good news is that X-rays came back negative, and although he's not in the starting lineup for Sunday's series finale against the Cincinnati Reds, he could be available off the bench. It's the first time that Alonso has been out of the lineup since May 30 of 2024. If he doesn't come in later in the game, it would snap his franchise-record streak of 353 straight games played, per MLB.com's Anthony DiComo. Mark Vientos will start at first base and bat cleanup against Reds left-hander Andrew Abbott on Sunday. If Alonso doesn't appear in Sunday's contest, his next chance to play would be on Monday in the series opener at Citi Field against the visiting Los Angeles Angels. Fantasy managers will want to check back then.
From RotoBaller
Chicago Cubs first baseman Michael Busch is retreating to the bench with a tough left-hander on the mound in Sunday's series finale at Wrigley Field against the visiting Boston Red Sox. Veteran Justin Turner is at first base and will bat eighth versus Red Sox southpaw Garrett Crochet. Although Busch is having a great year for the first-place Cubbies, he has struggled against lefties this year, going 11-for-56 (.196) against them with only two of his 20 home runs, five walks and 17 strikeouts in 62 plate appearances. The 27-year-old lefty hitter just needs two more home runs in 2025 to set a new career high in his second season with the Cubs. Busch is also slashing a strong .289/.374/.552 with a .926 OPS, 60 RBI, 47 runs and four steals in 92 games. Turner has faced Crochet only three times in his career and has one hit. He'll be a poor DFS play in the eight-hole.
From RotoBaller
Cleveland Guardians starting pitcher Shane Bieber (elbow) will make his next rehab appearance on Tuesday with one of the Guardians' minor league affiliates, according to MLB.com. Bieber is working his way back from the Tommy John surgery he underwent in April 2024. He's made two rehab appearances in the Arizona Complex League, throwing 4 1/3 innings with 11 strikeouts. A setback delayed the 30-year-old in June, but he appears to be back on track for a late-season return in 2025. Bieber's last full season came in 2023, when he threw 128 innings (21 starts) and went 6-6 with a 3.80 ERA, 1.23 WHIP, and 107 strikeouts. He's likely at least a few more rehab outings away from a big-league return, but this latest news is an encouraging sign.
From RotoBaller
Tampa Bay Rays first baseman Jonathan Aranda will get the day off on Sunday in the series finale against the division-rival Baltimore Orioles with left-hander Trevor Rogers on the mound. Yandy Diaz will man first base and bat third, while Junior Caminero will serve as the designated hitter and hit cleanup. Jose Caballero draws into the lineup at third base and will bat eighth. The Rays will give Aranda a breather after he went 0-for-8 with four strikeouts in the first two games of the second half of the season on Friday and Saturday. Despite the slow start coming out of the All-Star break, the 27-year-old is having a breakout season in 2025 in his fourth big-league season, as Aranda is currently slashing .316/.392/.480 with an .872 OPS, 11 home runs, 50 RBI and 48 runs scored in 93 games. He should be back in the lineup for Monday's series opener against the Chicago White Sox.
From RotoBaller
Cleveland Guardians outfielder Steven Kwan (wrist) received an injection for a nagging issue in his right wrist earlier this week but is "happy with the progression of it so far," according to Tim Stebbins of MLB.com. Kwan is not in the lineup for his team's game on Sunday against the Athletics, which marks his third straight game on the bench. In 404 plate appearances, the 27-year-old has slashed .285/.345/.396 with six home runs, 32 RBI, 43 runs scored, and 11 stolen bases. He remains one of the hardest hitters in MLB to punch out, posting a career-low 8.4% strikeout rate. However, Kwan struggles to generate power with a 1.8% barrel rate and 20.7% hard-hit rate. If this wrist injury continues to bother him throughout the remainder of the season, Kwan's already limited ability to impact the baseball could be even further diminished.
From RotoBaller
Cincinnati Reds third baseman Noelvi Marte is getting the start in right field on Sunday for his team's game against the New York Mets. Marte has played multiple infield positions so far in his career, but this is his first big-league start in the outfield. He was one of the Reds' hottest hitters entering the All-Star break, and has posted a .272/.327/.515 slash line with six home runs and five stolen bases in 113 plate appearances for the season. Cincinnati's willingness to play him in the outfield shows an eagerness to force him into the lineup, which could be a huge boon for Marte's fantasy outlook the rest of the way. The 23-year-old former top prospect has battled through injuries and a PED suspension in his career, but he could be on the verge of a late-season breakout.
From RotoBaller
Houston Astros starting pitcher Luis Garcia (elbow) is currently on a rehab assignment, and the team is moving him from the Florida Complex League to Single-A Fayetteville. Garcia underwent Tommy John surgery on his right elbow in May 2023 and suffered a setback while on a rehab assignment in 2025. He was able to throw four innings (two starts) without issue in the Complex League, striking out seven and allowing a single earned run. The 28-year-old Garcia has not pitched in the big leagues in over two years, so he's likely still in the beginning stages of what will be a lengthy rehab assignment. In his last full season for the Astros back in 2022, Garcia went 15-8 with a 3.72 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, and 157 strikeouts in 157 1/3 innings (28 starts).
From RotoBaller
Tampa Bay Rays second baseman Brandon Lowe (foot) is not in the lineup for his team's game on Sunday against the Baltimore Orioles. Lowe was pulled early from Tampa Bay's game on Saturday, but has not yet been placed on the injured list. The 30-year-old previously missed time this season with an oblique issue and has historically battled the injury bug for much of his career. He's been very productive when healthy this season, slashing .269/.320/.480 with 19 home runs, 50 RBI, and 55 runs scored in 350 plate appearances. Lowe is reportedly dealing with plantar fasciitis in his left foot. That's an injury that will likely linger throughout the remainder of the regular season, so fantasy managers will want to keep a close eye on his status.
From RotoBaller
Philadelphia Phillies catcher J.T. Realmuto will hit the bench for his team's game on Sunday afternoon against the Los Angeles Angels. It's an afternoon game following a night game, so this is likely just a planned day off for the veteran backstop. Rafael Marchan will take his place behind the plate and bat eighth. In 332 plate appearances so far this season, Realmuto has slashed .270/.325/.384 with five home runs, 32 RBI, 36 runs scored, and five stolen bases. The 34-year-old remains a solid source of batting average and speed (relative to other catchers), but his power output has fallen significantly from his peak. Realmuto's .114 ISO is his lowest since a 30-plate appearance sample size in 2014, his first year in the big leagues.
From RotoBaller
New York Yankees outfielder Jasson Dominguez is back in the lineup, batting leadoff and playing left field for his team's Sunday afternoon game against the Atlanta Braves. Dominguez was on the bench for Saturday's game against Atlanta, with Cody Bellinger playing left field and Trent Grisham in center field. The Yankees continue to divide playing time in the outfield and at designated hitter between Dominguez, Grisham, Giancarlo Stanton, and Ben Rice. In 313 plate appearances, the 22-year-old Dominguez has slashed .262/.339/.411 with eight home runs, 34 RBI, 43 runs scored, and 14 stolen bases. He remains a high-upside option in fantasy, but his somewhat sporadic usage with the Yankees has hurt his ability to rack up counting stats.
From RotoBaller
Atlanta Braves designated hitter Marcell Ozuna is back in the team's lineup for a game against the New York Yankees on Sunday. He's batting sixth versus right-hander Marcus Stroman. It'll be the first start since July 12 for Ozuna, though he did pinch-hit and strike out in a 12-9 loss on Saturday. The slumping 34-year-old has recently lost playing time to the catcher tandem of Drake Baldwin and Sean Murphy. Baldwin is behind the plate and hitting cleanup Sunday, and Murphy is taking a seat. Ozuna owned an .883 OPS going into June, but he has hit just .182 in 37 games since then. His overall line of .238/.365/.395 with 13 home runs and 42 RBI in 390 plate appearances still checks in well above the league average. However, it's a far cry from the excellent production he logged from 2023-24.
From RotoBaller
Veteran right-hander Trevor Cahill has decided to end his comeback bid and retire, according to J.P. Hoornstra of Newsweek. Cahill hasn't pitched in the majors since 2021 or in the minors since 2022. He attempted to resurrect his career with the Gastonia Ghost Peppers of the Atlantic League this season, but a knee injury forced the 37-year-old to hang up his cleats after he made two appearances with the team. A second-round pick of the Athletics in 2006, Cahill debuted in the majors in 2009 and went on to appear in 13 seasons in the bigs. He was an All-Star in 2010 and a member of the Cubs' historic World Series-winning team in 2016. Across 361 appearances (233 starts) and 1,507 2/3 innings, Cahill went 86-99 with a 4.26 ERA.
From RotoBaller
The Astros are set to recall first baseman Jon Singleton from Triple-A Sugar Land, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports. He'll come up with the Astros facing a rash of injuries in their infield. Now 33 years old, Singleton debuted with the Astros as a highly touted prospect in 2014, but his career hasn't gone according to plan. Singleton has received sporadic playing time in the majors in four different seasons with the Astros and Brewers. Over 930 plate appearances, Singleton has hit .198/.301/.347 with 29 home runs. While with the Astros last year, Singleton established career-high totals in games played (119) and plate appearances (405), and he batted a personal-best .234/.321/.386 with 13 homers and 42 RBI. The Astros released Singleton in March, but they re-signed him to a minor-league contract in June after he spent a brief period in the minors with the Mets.

The Athletics have reinstated left-hander Ken Waldichuk (elbow) from the 60-day injured list and optioned him to Triple-A Las Vegas. Waldichuk, whose 30-day rehab assignment window ended, will get more work in the minors in the wake of May 2024 Tommy John surgery. The 27-year-old has struggled to a 7.63 ERA with 17:16 K:BB in 15 1/3 minor league innings this season. He last pitched in the majors in 2023 and put up a 5.36 ERA with 132 strikeouts against 71 walks across 141 innings (35 appearances, 22 starts).
From RotoBaller
Texas Rangers right-hander Jon Gray (forearm) pitched well for Triple-A Round Rock Saturday in what could go down as his final rehab start. Gray threw 3 2/3 innings of one-run, three-hit ball with five strikeouts against two walks over 61 pitches. The 33-year-old hasn't pitched in the majors this season after suffering a forearm fracture during the spring, but he could rejoin the Rangers in the coming days. Gray has worked almost exclusively out of the rotation in his career, having amassed 223 starts in 228 appearances, but it's unclear how the Rangers will use him when he returns. He spent some time in relief last year (19 starts in 23 appearances) and posted a 4.47 ERA with a 1.31 WHIP, 86 strikeouts, and 28 walks in 102 2/3 innings.
From RotoBaller
Chicago White Sox left-hander Martin Perez (elbow) is continuing to make progress in his recovery from a flexor tendon strain. After Perez threw a bullpen session on Saturday, White Sox assistant general manager Josh Barfield said the 34-year-old is nearing a rehab assignment. Perez went on the injured list on April 19 after making four starts and racking up 20 innings of 3.15 ERA ball with a 1.25 WHIP, 18 strikeouts, and 11 walks. He'll be a late-season option for Chicago's rotation if he gets through the rehab process unscathed.
From RotoBaller
Texas Rangers infieldprospect Sebastian Walcott went 3-for-4 at the plate on Saturday for Double-A Frisco, including a pair of singles, a home run, two RBI, two runs scored, and two stolen bases. It was his second home run in the last three games, now slashing .244/.341/.392 with 10 home runs and 22 steals through80 games. Although the batting average doesn't show it, the 19-year-old is more than holding his own given his age, striking out at a slightly better than average rate of 21.6 percent and registering a 12.2 percent walk rate to complement the other counting stats. The Bahamian is the game's fourth-ranked prospect overall, and with one of the best power/speed combos, dynasty managers should be stashing the future fantasy impact player away, with a major league debut potentially coming next year.
From RotoBaller
DetroitTigers infield prospect Kevin McGonigle went 3-for-4 with a walk, a pair of singles, and a double for Double-A Erie on Saturday, stealing a base, scoring once, and collecting two RBI in the process. It was the second straight game with a double and his best showing yet since being promoted to Double-A, now with five games under his belt at that level. The Tigers' top-ranked prospect (MLB No. 6) was raking at High-A before his promotion, slashing.372/.462/.648 with seven home runs in 36 games. The left-handed slugger shot up the prospect ranks last year and has done the same thing this year, positioning himself well for a potential promotion to Triple-A by season's end. Armed with one of the best hit tools in the minors, McGonigle should be stashed away in dynasty formats and could be making waves in redraft leagues as soon as next year.
From RotoBaller
Colorado Rockies third base/outfield prospect Charlie Condon went 2-for-4 on Saturday for Double-A Hartford, collecting a single, a solo home run, and he was also hit by a pitch. It was the second straightgame with a home run for the Rockies' top-ranked prospect, who is now riding a five-game hit streak, too. The 2024 first-rounder is slashing .297/.400/.514 through 11 games at Double-A, although a high 35.6 percent strikeout rate is something to keep an eye on. The 22-year-old got a late start to the season due to a wrist injury he suffered in the spring, but slashed .312/.431/.420 in 35 games at High-A, which earned him the promotion to Hartford. If he can continue to hit, another promotion could be on the way, and a late-season debut is still on the table.
