New England Patriots running back Sony Michel (undisclosed), offensive lineman Shaq Mason, and defensive end Derek Rivers have all been placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list ahead of Sundays game versus Denver. Placement on the list does not necessarily mean that players had to test positive for the virus, with it also being utilized for those who have been in close contact with others who have tested positive for COVID-19. The game between Denver and New England has been somewhat snakebitten over the past few weeks, finally having been moved to Sunday due to continuous positive tests. At this stage, there is no reason to believe the game wont go on, with Damien Harris and James White expected to handle much of the workload out of the backfield.
New England Patriots RB Sony Michel, G Shaq Mason and DE Derek Rivers were placed on the Reserve/COVID-19 list Saturday, Oct. 17.
New England Patriots running back Sony Michel (quadriceps) was placed on Injured Reserve on Monday, but a source said the injury isn't season-ending, and Michel could come off IR after three weeks. Michel went from being questionable to play on Monday against the Chiefs, to ruled out to placed on IR. The oft-injured 25-year-old had a coming-out party against the Raiders in Week 3, but he's mostly been inconsistent and disappointing for fantasy owners outside of that one game this year. With Damien Harris (hand) coming off IR this week on top of it, Michel's path to notable touches on a weekly basis could be in jeopardy the rest of the year when he returns. This backfield is once again in flux with Harris, Rex Burkhead, James White and rookie JJ Taylor in the mix.
New England Patriots RB Sony Michel (quad) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list on Monday, Oct. 5. The Patriots activated Damien Harris (hand) off the Reserve/Injured list to replace him on the roster.
Fantasy Spin: The timing of Michel's IR stint is curious since he was a limited participant in practice all week, but it clears the path for Harris to assume the role of an early-down workhorse after making a strong impression in training camp. Harris can't be expected to do much in Week 4 versus the Kansas City Chiefs and figures to be limited to no more than 10 touches, but there is RB2 upside with him if he is eventually able to take advantage of the opportunity he is being presented with following Michel's banishment.
The New England Patriots downgraded running back Sony Michel (quadriceps) to out for the Monday night game against the Chiefs. It's highly disappointing after Michel broke out and ran all over the Raiders in Week 3. It's another blow to the Patriots after quarterback Cam Newton's positive COVID-19 test, so they'll now be led by veteran signal-caller Brian Hoyer without their top running back against the league's highest-scoring offense. We'd expect Rex Burkhead, who broke out last weekend, and James White to split most of the backfield repetitions on Monday night. With New England likely to have to throw often, both Burkhead and White will be in play as flex options in PPR leagues.
New England Patriots RB Sony Michel (quadriceps) didn't travel Monday, Oct. 5, and is out for Week 4.
Fantasy Spin: Rex Burkhead poked his head in the fantasy door with a big game last week, and he'll be a flex option against the Kansas City Chiefs.
New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman (knee) and running back Sony Michel (quadriceps) are both listed as questionable for Week 4 against the Chiefs. Both players were limited in practice all week, so we'd expect them both to play. The bigger concern here is whether this game will be played at all in Week 4 after quarterback Cam Newton tested positive for COVID-19. Edelman has plenty of upside this week as a WR2, even with Brian Hoyer under center, since the Patriots are unlikely to have the luxury of running the ball all day like they did in Week 3 against the Raiders. He'll be looking to bounce back after a dud against Las Vegas. Michel went off last week but will be up against a stingy KC defensive front. Temper expectations for him as more of an RB3/flex. Continue to check back for updates on whether this game will be played on Monday or Tuesday this week.
New England Patriots RB Sony Michel (quadriceps) was limited during practice Friday, Oct. 2, and is listed as questionable for Week 4.
Fantasy Spin: Michel should be ready to play this week, but fantasy players should check the inactive list to make sure of his status. He likely will receive most of the carries in the running game and can be a No. 2 running back or flex option in leagues.
New England Patriots DB Cody Davis (rib) did not practice all week and has been ruled out for Week 4 versus the Kansas City Chiefs. DL Adam Butler (shoulder), WR Julian Edelman (knee), RB Sony Michel (quad), OL Isaiah Wynn (calf) and OL Shaq Mason (calf) were limited in practice all week and are listed as questionable.
New England Patriots running back Sony Michel is coming off an incredible 117-yard performance versus the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 3. However, fantasy owners should not expect that type of performance from Michel again. James White (personal) is expected to be back, which will hurt the value of both Michel and Rex Burkhead. Michel was outstanding last week, but wasn't able to do much during the first two games of the season. He'll get a matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs who are average against the rushing game. Michel is avoidable in 12-team leagues, but might have some low-end flex value to offer.
New England Patriots RB Sony Michel (quadriceps) was limited during practice Thursday, Oct. 1.
Fantasy Spin: Michel should be able to handle his normal workload this week despite the injury. He can be considered a No. 2 running back or flex option in fantasy leagues.
New England Patriots DB Cody Davis (rib) did not participate in practice Thursday, Oct. 1. DL Adam Butler (shoulder), WR Julian Edelman (knee), RB Sony Michel (quad), OL Isaiah Wynn (calf) and OL Shaq Mason (calf) were limited.
New England Patriots running back Sony Michel (quadriceps) and wide receiver Julian Edelman (knee) were both limited in practice on Wednesday. Michel has dealt with plenty of injuries so far in his career, so this one is worth watching, but as of right now, he seems like a good bet to play in Week 4 against the Chiefs. Michel ran all over the Raiders in the victory last week, but KC's defensive front will be a much tougher matchup. Consider him as more of a touchdown-dependent RB3/flex. Edelman is frequently on the injury report with minor injuries but usually plays through them. He was quiet last week in a game in which Rex Burkhead scored three times. The Pats will have to throw the ball to keep up with the Chiefs in this contest, making Edelman a good bet to bounce back as a WR2. The Chiefs are a bit beat up in the secondary as well.
New England Patriots RB Sony Michel (quadriceps) was limited during practice Wednesday, Sept. 30.
Fantasy Spin: Fantasy players should know more about Michel's availability in the next few days. He is coming off a big Week 3 performance and should lead the team in carries this week. He can be a No. 2 runing back or flex option in leagues.
New England Patriots RB Sony Michel rushed nine times for a game-high 117 yards in Week 3 against the Las Vegas Raiders and he added two catches for 23 yards on his two targets.
Fantasy Spin: Michel hit his season average for rushes per game, but a 48-yard scamper helped him to a season best in yardage. He still hasn't scored since Week 1 and remains more of a flex fantasy option in leagues of 12 or more teams heading into Week 4 in Kansas City.
New England Patriots running back Sony Michel was able to run all over the Las Vegas Raiders defense in Week 3. He rushed nine times for 117 yards in the victory. He also caught both of his targets for 23 yards in the passing game. It was a great performance by Michel, but fantasy owners shouldn't continue to expect this from him. This game was likely a fluke, so expect him to come back down to Earth against the Kansas City Chiefs next week.
New England Patriots running back Sony Michel has struggled to get anything going on the ground early in the season. He was basically a non-factor against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 2. Michel rushed seven times for 19 yards in the loss. He'll get a matchup against a weaker Las Vegas Raiders run defense. However, it's tough to trust Michel after his recent performances. He's a touchdown-dependent RB3 for this matchup.
New England Patriots running back Sony Michel was unable to get anything going on the ground versus the Seattle Seahawks in Week 2. He rushed seven times for 19 yards in the loss. The Patriots basically abandoned the running game in the second half, so Michel didn't see many chances after the second quarter. He'll get a matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 3, but fantasy owners should consider Michel a touchdown dependent RB3 right now.
New England Patriots running back Sony Michel was the starter for their Week 1 matchup against the Miami Dolphins. He rushed 10 times for 37 yards and one touchdown. His lone touchdown was at the goal line, but quarterback Cam Newton figures to get plenty of chances there as well. The Patriots are going to use a run-heavy offense, which is good news for Michel's value. However, he'll get a matchup against a tougher Seattle Seahawks Defense in Week 2. Fantasy owners should be able to trust Michel as a RB3 or maybe a low-end flex option.
New England Patriots running back Sony Michel was able to find the end zone during their Week 1 victory over the Miami Dolphins. He rushed 10 times for 37 yards and scored one touchdown. Michel appears to be the starting running back in this run-heavy New England offense. There should be enough value for Michel to remain owned in 12-team formats. However, it's going to depend on the opponent. He'll probably be a RB3 against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 2.
