New York Giants general manager Joe Schoen stated on Wednesday that the organization has had initial talks with running back Saquon Barkley and hopes to "move closer" in negotiations next week. Barkley, who is an unrestricted free agent, was named a finalist for the AP NFL Comeback Player of the Year Award after posting a career-high in rushing yards and 10 touchdowns this season. The 25-year-old has said he would like to stay in New York, and the team could reportedly opt to use the franchise tag to retain him if the two sides do not agree on a multi-year contract.
From RotoBaller
New York Giants impending free-agent RB Saquon Barkley had contract talks with the Giants last week and is expected to have more conversations with the team next week, according to general manager Joe Schoen.
Fantasy Spin: It seems like Barkley probably will be with the Giants for at least one more season, but it is not known if the two sides will be able to agree on a multi-year deal. Barkley had a bounce back season in 2022 and should be a No. 1 running back in most fantasy leagues.
From TheHuddle
New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley was offered around $12 million per season on a new contract during the team's bye week, according to sources. However, general manager Joe Schoen said the two sides weren't close in value. Barkley said on Sunday that he didn't necessarily want to set the market, but he reportedly wants near Christian McCaffrey's $16 million average. The Giants have a limit to how far they'll go, so the franchise tag for Barkley in 2023 is very realistic. The 25-year-old stayed healthy and carried the Giants offense for the majority of the year, finishing with a career-high 295 carries, career-high 1,312 yards and 10 rushing touchdowns while adding 57 receptions on 76 targets for 338 additional yards over 16 regular season contests. Barkley finished as the RB6 in half-point PPR scoring, so he'll be in demand as a high-end RB1 no matter where he's playing in 2023.
From RotoBaller
New York Giants RB Saquon Barkley is reportedly seeking a new contract in the same range as the four-year, $64 million deal that Christian McCaffrey signed with the Carolina Panthers in 2020.
Fantasy Spin: If recent history has taught us anything, it is that signing running backs to second contracts typically does not work out well for the team. McCaffrey and Barkley might be two examples of running backs who are special enough that the same logic does not apply to them. It seems unlikely Barkley will get the contract he is supposedly seeking, but it would not be a surprise at all if he ends up getting paid like a top-five back. The bigger question remains if that contract will come from the Giants or someone else.
From TheHuddle
New York Giants impending free-agent RB Saquon Barkley said he is not expecting to set the running back market this offseason with his next contract. He does not believe the Divisional Round playoff game was his last with the Giants.
Fantasy Spin: Barkley likely will remain with the Giants either with a new contract or the franchise tag. He had a bounce back season in 2022 and has returned as a valuable fantasy option in all leagues. He should be a No. 1 fantasy back in leagues next season.
From TheHuddle
New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley finished with 61 yards off nine carries during Saturday's postseason loss to the Eagles. He also caught two of his three targets for 21 yards. The Giants couldn't get past Philadelphia to advance to the NFC Championship. However, the organization has reason to be optimistic, considering Barkley played nearly the entire 2022-23 campaign and ended the year with 10 touchdowns and a career-high 1,312 yards. The 25-year-old, who is set to hit free agency come March, reportedly turned down a three or four-year deal from the Giants before the team's bye that would have paid him around $12.5 million annually. But now Barkley plans to meet with his agent sometime next week, although he's been vocal about remaining in New York moving forward. Either way, the former Nittany Lion did enough this season to be considered a first-round fantasy option heading toward Week 1. While his receiving numbers were nowhere close to what he produced during his inaugural season, he'll draw even more interest from fantasy managers participating in PPR setups. One thing is certain; there should be plenty of updates and rumors regarding Barkley's future in the months ahead.
From RotoBaller
New York Giants RB Saquon Barkley rushed nine times for 61 yards and caught two passes for 21 yards in a 38-7 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in the divisional round of the playoffs.
From TheHuddle
New York Giants RB Saquon Barkley received a contract offer during the team's bye week but decided to turn it down. The deal was believed to be for three or four years and be worth $12 to $12.5 million per season.
Fantasy Spin: The Giants and Barkley will resume contract talks after the season, so the two sides will have a month to reach a deal. He likely will be a candidate for the franchise tag if he does not receive a new deal. Barkley had a fantastic regular season and will be a No. 1 running back next season.
From TheHuddle
New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley remains a fantastic option in Saturday's Divisional Round matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles. The electric back tied his season low with nine rushing attempts in last week's win over the Minnesota Vikings, but he still managed to record 53 rushing yards and two touchdowns while catching five passes for 56 yards. After getting fewer touches than expected in the Wild Card win, the superstar back for the Giants should get plenty of opportunities on Saturday. Barkley has scored a touchdown in five of his last seven games and he's poised to score another against the Eagles.
From RotoBaller
Giants' RB Saquon Barkley scored 27.90 fantasy points in Sunday's playoff win in Minnesota. Barkley ran for 53 yards and caught five passes for 56 yards with two touchdowns. Barkley scored at least 25 fantasy points three times during the regular season.
New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley recorded 53 rushing yards and two touchdowns on nine carries while he also caught five passes for 56 yards in Sunday's impressive win against the Minnesota Vikings. The dynamic back instantly made his presence felt in Sunday's contest with a long rushing touchdown and despite not getting a ton of rushing attempts, he was efficient with his touches. Even though Barkley was productive with the touches he got in the first round of the playoffs, the Giants will likely want to get him more involved in next week's Divisional Round showdown with the Philadelphia Eagles.
From RotoBaller
New York Giants RB Saquon Barkley rushed nine times for 53 yards with two touchdowns in the NFC wild-card game against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, Jan. 15, and he added five grabs for 56 yards on six targets.
From TheHuddle
New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley is a premier running back option in Sunday's Wild Card showdown against the Minnesota Vikings. The superstar back disappointed with 53 scrimmage yards in a favorable matchup against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 17, but he tallied 133 scrimmage yards and a touchdown in Week 16 against the Vikings. The Giants will undoubtedly lean on Barkley in the team's first playoff game since 2016, and with the Vikings not being great against RBs, the dynamic back figures to be one of the best options in DFS for the first round of the playoffs.
From RotoBaller
New York Giants RB Gary Brightwell rushed 11 times for a game-high 60 yards in a start in Week 18 against the Philadelphia Eagles with RB Saquon Barkley resting. Brightwell also had a lone 3-yard reception on his three targets.
From TheHuddle
New York Giants RB Saquon Barkley has been declared inactive for the Week 18 game.
Fantasy Spin: The Giants are resting Barkley so he will be ready for the playoffs. Matt Breida likely will receive most of the work at running back with Barkley sitting and can be a flex option in fantasy leagues.
From TheHuddle
The New York Giants have declared CB Adoree' Jackson, OT Andrew Thomas, LB Azeez Ojulari, DT Dexter Lawrence, CB Julian Love, DL Leonard Williams and RB Saquon Barkley inactive for Week 18.
From TheHuddle
New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley is a healthy scratch for Week 18 against the Philadelphia Eagles. Expect Matt Breida and Gary Brightwell to handle rushing duties on Sunday. The Giants have secured a playoff berth, so they'll rest several key starters this week. In addition to Barkley, New York made Andrew Thomas, Dexter Lawrence, Leonard Williams (neck), Julian Love, Azeez Ojulari (ankle), and Adoree' Jackson (knee) all inactive on Sunday. Meanwhile, quarterback Daniel Jones is active but not expected to play.
From RotoBaller
New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley is an extremely risky running back option in Week 18 against the Philadelphia Eagles. With the Giants clinching a playoff spot in Week 17 and not having a chance to improve or worsen their seeding, they are trending toward resting their key starters in Week 18. Taking that into account, New York likely won't risk playing the star running back on Sunday against the Eagles. Seeing that Barkley is unlikely to play in the regular-season finale, Matt Breida and Gary Brightwell will likely split the workload out of the backfield versus the Eagles.
From RotoBaller
New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley, when asked about his status for the Week 18 regular season finale against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, said: "I'm playing unless Dabes tells me differently, I'm playing." That's all well and good, but there remains a strong chance that head coach Brian Daboll sits Barkley and many of the other starters down in a Week 18 game that has zero meaning in terms of playoff seeding for the G-Men. If you're playing for a fantasy championship this weekend and have had Barkley in your starting lineups all season, you may be extremely disappointed if you end up leaving him in there. Even if Barkley "starts" the game, expect to see a lot of backups Matt Breida and Gary Brightwell against Philly.
From RotoBaller
New York Giants RB Saquon Barkley rushed 12 times for 58 yards in Week 17 against the Indianapolis Colts, while adding two receptions for minus-5 yards on his four targets.
