Tarik Skubal and Paul Skenes topped the American and National League starters in player balloting as the All-Star Game pitchers and reserves were revealed on Sunday afternoon.

Skubal (10-2, 2.15 ERA), the reigning AL Cy Young Award winner for the Detroit Tigers, is a likely candidate to start the game for the American League. Skenes (4-7, 1.94), despite a less sparkling win-loss record for the Pittsburgh Pirates this year, was the National League's All-Star starter in 2024 on his way to winning Rookie of the Year.

After the All-Star Game starters were determined by a fan vote and revealed Wednesday, the pitchers and reserves were selected by a combination of the player ballot and Major League Baseball.

Following Skubal among the AL starting pitchers were Garrett Crochet (Boston Red Sox), Max Fried (New York Yankees), Hunter Brown (Houston Astros) and Jacob deGrom (Texas Rangers). It is the injury-bitten deGrom's fifth All-Star selection and his first since 2021.

Aroldis Chapman (Boston) headlines the AL relief pitchers with his eighth career selection and his first since 2021 as well.

Behind Skenes in the NL starting pitcher vote were Zack Wheeler (Philadelphia Phillies), Chris Sale (Atlanta Braves), Logan Webb (San Francisco Giants) and MacKenzie Gore (Washington Nationals). It's Sale's ninth selection all-time.

MLB commissioner Rob Manfred named Los Angeles Dodgers star Clayton Kershaw to the game as a "Legend Pick." It marks his 11th All-Star selection and comes just after he became the 20th player to reach 3,000 career strikeouts earlier this week.

Randy Rodriguez (San Francisco) led the NL relievers in player votes.

Some of the 19 first-time All-Stars include Dodgers starting pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Tampa Bay Rays infielder Jonathan Aranda, Houston Astros infielder Jeremy Pena and St. Louis Cardinals infielder Brendan Donovan, along with AL starters Cal Raleigh (Seattle Mariners) and Jacob Wilson (Athletics) and NL starter Pete Crow-Armstrong (Chicago Cubs).
