The Kansas City Royals bolstered their bullpen on Saturday, acquiring right-hander Hunter Harvey from the Washington Nationals in exchange for prospect Cayden Wallace and a competitive balance pick (No. 39 overall) in this year's MLB draft, which begins Sunday.
Harvey, 29, is 2-4 with a 4.20 ERA in 43 relief appearances this season, his third with Washington. Harvey spent his first three big-league seasons with the Baltimore Orioles, who drafted him in the first round (No. 22 overall) of the 2013 draft.
Wallace, a 22-year-old third baseman, was the Royals' No. 2 prospect, per MLB Pipeline. In 34 games this season at Double-A Northwest Arkansas, he hit .282 with three home runs and 16 RBIs.
A second-round pick of Kansas City in the 2022 draft, Wallace has hit .265 with 18 homers and 118 RBIs in 198 games over three minor league seasons.
