Week 7 TNF: Preview, Props, Prediction

Field Level Media

The third all-time meeting between 40-something quarterbacks kicks off the Week 7 slate for the NFL on Thursday night.

Aaron Rodgers, 41, and the Pittsburgh Steelers (4-1) visit 40-year-old Joe Flacco and the Cincinnati Bengals (2-4) on Thursday night. The previous two times occurred in 2020, when Drew Brees, 41, and the New Orleans Saints twice beat Tom Brady, 43, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

ODDS AND TRENDS

The Steelers enter riding a three-game winning streak and are consensus 5.5-point favorites over the Bengals, who have dropped four straight since losing quarterback Joe Burrow to a toe injury.

The spread line has drawn fairly event action at BetRivers, where Pittsburgh has drawn 55% of the money and 56% of the total bets. However, there is far stronger consensus on who will win the game outright, with the Steelers backed by 73 and 79 percent of the action, respectively, on their -275 moneyline.

Cincinnati's past 11 games have all been won by the favorite, while eight of the Bengals' past nine home games have gone Over the total points line. That number sits at 44.5 points at BetRivers, with the Over backed by 80% of the money and 56% of the bets.

PROP PICKS

--Steelers WR D.K. Metcalf Anytime TD Scorer (+143 at BetRivers): The first-year Steeler is quickly building chemistry with Rodgers, having scored in each of the past four games. Metcalf also has his two best production games over the past two games, catching five passes for 126 yards in Week 4 and four passes for 95 yards last Sunday.

--Bengals WR Tee Higgins 25+ Receiving Yards (-367 at DraftKings): The passing game received an immediate jolt with Flacco under center, which included Higgins catching a season-high 62 yards worth of passes last Sunday. He has had at least 25 receiving yards in four of six games to start the season, so the short odds aren't overly concerning here. The higher risk/reward factor comes with Higgins at 40+ Yards (-160), 50+ Yards (-102) and 60+ Yards (+155).

INSIDE EDGE INTEL

Steelers wide receivers lead the NFL with an average of 8.7 yards after the catch this season. The Bengals have allowed 5.2 yards after catch per reception to WRs this season (third-worst in NFL). Last season, the Bengals allowed 10 TD passes to tight ends.

SERIES REWIND

The Steelers won 11 consecutive games in the series from 2015-2020 and hold the all-time edge over the Bengals, 71-40 including a 2-0 record in the postseason.

THE BREAKDOWN

Cincinnati acquired Flacco prior to last week's trip to Green Bay and immediately installed him as the starter. The Bengals were 2-0 in games started by Burrow, who is on IR with a toe injury.

Jake Browning threw eight interceptions in three-plus games and Cincinnati was 0-3 in his last three starts, prompting the maneuver of acquiring Flacco from Cleveland to start for his third different AFC North team (Baltimore Ravens, Cleveland Browns). He threw two TD passes in his debut last week and it's fair to say Steelers coach Mike Tomlin wasn't excited to learn he'd be seeing Flacco for the 26th time in his career (the first 22 as a member of the rival Ravens and last September when Flacco replaced an injured Anthony Richardson with the Indianapolis Colts).

Rodgers might not be the MVP-level quarterback of decades ago, but he has mostly enjoyed success in a career reset with the Steelers. He rolls into Week 7 with 63,973 career regular-season passing yards and is only 115 yards back from former Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (64,088 passing yards), who is currently fifth all-time in regular-season passing yards. Cincinnati has been hit early and often by big plays, especially in the passing game. The Bengals' 43 passing TDs allowed since the start of the 2024 season is second-worst in the NFL.

Pittsburgh's offseason investments on the other side of the ball are boosting the secondary. CB Jalen Ramsey gets a one-on-one matchup with Ja'Marr Chase, Flacco's clear No. 1 target, as the Bengals try to find a spark in the running game. Chase caught his 50th career TD last week and his 2,176 receiving yards since the 2024 season began leads the NFL. While his numbers are down from a superhuman effort in 2024, Chase is averaging seven catches per game, tied for No. 3 in the league.

RB Chase Brown's average of 2.7 yards per carry and 1.5 yards after contact are in the bottom five of the 43 qualified NFL backs in the league.

THEY SAID IT

--"It's reasonable to expect him to be significantly better in Week 2. He's been in the stadium with them. They've been in the stadium with him. They understand his demeanor, how he deals with circumstances. I would imagine they worked hard a week ago on developing timing and cohesion." --Tomlin

--"It's one thing (the media) can't talk about this week in terms of me being older, at least, but it's pretty neat. Aaron's been in the league a few years longer than me, but we both started playing in 2008, so doing it for a long time. It's pretty cool." --Flacco

INJURY REPORT

Cincinnati leading pass rusher Trey Hendrickson suffered a back contusion and did not return after exiting in the final minute of the first half at Green Bay. He was listed as questionable on the final injury report but is not expected to play.

The Bengals are expected to get a key piece of their defense back as rookie defensive end Shemar Stewart, the 17th overall pick in April, is expected to play after missing the last four games with an ankle injury, according to defensive coordinator Al Golden. Stewart has practiced both days this week.

Cincinnati, however, could be without tight ends Mike Gesicki (pectoral) and Tanner Hudson (concussion). Both missed practice Tuesday.

For the Steelers, safety and special teams captain Miles Killebrew suffered a "significant" knee injury against Cleveland, said Tomlin, who has ruled him out for Thursday's game.

PREDICTION

Flacco pumped some life into the Bengals' offense but the Steelers can kick a lying dog while it's down and further distance themselves atop the AFC North with a convincing road win. Pittsburgh's offense is finding its rhythm and can control field position while dominating the clock with Cincinnati's ground game 31st in the NFL averaging just 3.1 yards per carry. --Steelers 30, Bengals 20

Starts, Sits, Sleepers: Week 7

Player Notes
Josh Jacobs Oct 17 3:50pm CT
Josh Jacobs

Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs (calf) is now listed as questionable for Week 7 against the Cardinals, according to Zach Kruse of the Packers Wire. Jacobs was previously listed on the injury report with an illness and had been limited, but now looks to be dealing with a calf injury despite being upgraded to a full practice on Friday. His status for Sunday is to be determined, but he should be all good to go for Sunday, barring something unforeseen. Jacobs has erupted over the last two weeks, totaling 307 yards and scoring four touchdowns. He's lined up to crush again in Week 7 against a Cardinals defense that is allowing the ninth most PPR points per game to opposing running backs.

Justin Jefferson Oct 17 3:50pm CT
Justin Jefferson

Wide receiver Justin Jefferson of the Minnesota Vikings should once again be glued into starting lineups when his team takes on a Philadelphia Eagles team that has uncharacteristically struggled in 2025. The Eagles, who infamously passed on Jefferson to select Jalen Reagor, haven't been nearly as dominant as they were in their run to a Super Bowl last season. Philly is allowing points on more than 43% of opposing drives, which ranks 26th, and also ranks in the bottom 10 of average depth of target (29th), pressure percentage (27th), and sacks (25th). With Minnesota set to start backup quarterback Carson Wentz for at least one more week, getting the ball to Jefferson, who had 22 targets in the past two games, should be a priority again.

Jordan Addison Oct 17 3:50pm CT
Jordan Addison

Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Jordan Addison is a solid WR3/Flex candidate as the Vikings are set to play host to the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 7. The Vikings will start quarterback Carson Wentz with J.J. McCarthy (ankle) officially listed as questionable and likely to be the team's emergency third quarterback, though Addison performed well in his lone opportunity with Wentz, connecting for a game-winning touchdown against Cleveland. Further, Philly hasn't impressed on defense so far this year. The Eagles are struggling to disrupt quarterbacks, ranking 27th in pressure rate, and also ranking near the bottom of the league in defensive average depth of target. As always, Addison is going to be in the shadow of Justin Jefferson, but the former USC standout has shown regular home run potential. With a good matchup on Sunday, he's an option in most formats.

T.J. Hockenson Oct 17 3:50pm CT
T.J. Hockenson

Minnesota Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson is a middle-of-the-pack TE2 option with his team set to play host to the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 7. Not only has the veteran tight end's production swung wildly from week to week, but the Eagles have been particularly good against fantasy tight ends, holding them to the fourth-fewest points. However, Hockenson has had better production with Carson Wentz, who will start Sunday with J.J. McCarthy (ankle) listed as questionable as he returns from injury. Still, Hockenson has finished among the top 15 fantasy tight ends just once in five tries, making him hard to trust in formats that play only one tight end.

Will Reichard Oct 17 3:50pm CT
Will Reichard

Minnesota Vikings kicker Will Reichard is a mid-tier kicking option when his team plays host to the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 7. The second-year man has been mostly excellent this season, going 11-for-11 on extra points and 8-for-9 on field goals, with the lone miss impacted by an overhead wire during the Vikings' trip to London. Reichard has a solid matchup against Philly, but the bigger concern is the Minnesota offense, which will again start backup quarterback Carson Wentz with J.J. McCarthy (ankle) deemed questionable. The Vikings finished their most recent game with four backups on the offensive line, but should have at least three of five normal starters available Sunday. Reichard has been in good form, but an up-and-down Vikings offense impacts the number of chances he ultimately gets.

J.J. McCarthy Oct 17 3:50pm CT
J.J. McCarthy

Minnesota Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy (ankle) is expected to be the emergency third QB for Sunday's matchup against the Eagles, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. McCarthy is set to miss his fourth straight game after suffering a high ankle sprain in Minnesota's Week 2 loss to the Falcons. There was an expectation that McCarthy would be ready to go out of the team's bye in Week 6, but they opted to give him some more time to rest. Veteran Carson Wentz is in line to make another start against his former team in Week 7. He's completed 69% of his passes for 759 yards, five touchdowns, and two interceptions in McCarthy's place and holds some value in two-quarterback leagues.

Jakobi Meyers Oct 17 3:40pm CT
Jakobi Meyers

Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Jakobi Meyers (knee, toe) returned to practice on Friday, Ryan McFadden of ESPN reports. Meyers missed the last two days of practice, but suited up on Friday and putting him in a good spot to be able to play Sunday. After recording at least 60 receiving yards in each of his first three games, Mayers has now gone three straight games with just four catches and under 40 yards. Star tight end Brock Bowers (knee) was also seen practicing on Friday, which will give him a chance to play on Sunday. With the Raiders' bye in Week 8, the team could opt to rest him one more week. That would open up more targets for Meyers, who will rank on the WR3 line for Week 7, assuming he is good to go.

From RotoBaller

Jordan Mason Oct 17 3:40pm CT
Jordan Mason

Minnesota Vikings running back Jordan Mason should be considered an RB2/high-end Flex play when his team plays host to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday. Not only are the injury-riddled Vikings expected to have guard Donovan Jackson (wrist) back in the lineup, but the Eagles are among the bottom rung of defenses against fantasy running backs, ranking 24th in yards per attempt allowed and 30th in rushing first downs allowed. Only three NFL teams have surrendered more rushing touchdowns. With backfield mate Aaron Jones (hamstring) still on injured reserve, Mason should receive lead-back work in the Minnesota backfield. Although the Vikings' offense has struggled at times this season, Mason should have enough opportunity to start in fantasy lineups in Week 7.

From RotoBaller

Zavier Scott Oct 17 3:40pm CT
Zavier Scott

Minnesota Vikings running back Zavier Scott should be considered only as a desperation RB5 when his team takes on Philadelphia in Week 7 due to his low volume in the offense. Playing an elevated role due to the injury to Aaron Jones (hamstring), Scott caught six passes for 43 yards and a touchdown in Week 4 against Pittsburgh, but isn't getting enough touches overall to be relied upon in fantasy. With Jordan Mason getting the lion's share of work, Scott is drawing an average of just over seven touches per game, which generally isn't enough to consider for fantasy lineups. The Eagles have struggled against fantasy running backs, but playing Scott would be totally dependent on the possibility that he scores a touchdown in one of his limited opportunities.

From RotoBaller

Brock Bowers Oct 17 3:20pm CT
Brock Bowers

Las Vegas Raiders tight end Brock Bowers (knee) returned to practice on Friday, according to Ryan McFadden of ESPN. For the first time since October 1, Bowers returned to practice after missing two games. It's unclear whether this puts him on track to play Sunday, but it keeps the door open. The star tight end suffered a PCL injury back in Week 1 and played through it for a couple of weeks before ultimately opting to give it some time to heal. With the Raiders' bye coming in Week 8, it wouldn't be too surprising to see the team hold him out one more week to make sure he is right when he returns. If Bowers can play, it'd be tough to justify sitting him in fantasy. But if Bowers is unable to go again, backup TE Michael Mayer is back in play as a plug-and-play streamer for Week 7.

Carson Wentz Oct 17 3:10pm CT
Carson Wentz

Minnesota Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell has named veteran Carson Wentz (shoulder) as the team's starting quarterback for its Week 7 matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. Wentz suffered a shoulder injury in Week 5, but the team's Week 6 bye apparently gave him the time he needed to be ready for Week 7. Rapoport reports that Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy (ankle), who has not played since Week 2, is still recovering from a high-ankle sprain and will serve as the team's emergency third quarterback. In three starts since McCarthy went down, Wentz has completed 69% of his passes for 759 yards, five touchdowns, and two interceptions. He profiles as a player for fantasy managers to avoid in Week 7, even in two-quarterback formats.

Alvin Kamara Oct 17 3:00pm CT
Alvin Kamara

New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara (ankle) will not carry an injury designation into his team's Week 7 matchup against the Chicago Bears, per Mike Triplett of NewOrleans.Football. The veteran back will reportedly sit out the team's Wednesday practices for the foreseeable future as he manages an ankle injury, but it does not appear the ailment will keep him from playing. Kamara has recorded 436 yards from scrimmage and one touchdown on 105 total touches through six games so far this season. He's averaging career lows in both yards per touch (4.2) and yards per reception (5.5). Kamara profiles as a low-end fantasy RB2/high-end flex option in Week 7 against Chicago.

From RotoBaller

Chris Olave Oct 17 2:50pm CT
Chris Olave

New Orleans Saints wide receiver Chris Olave (hip) is "full go with no injury designation" for his team's Week 7 matchup against the Chicago Bears, according to Mike Triplett of NewOrleans.Football. Olave has been a target machine so far this season, recording 39 catches for 342 yards and one touchdown on 64 targets through his first six games. The 25-year-old has recorded double-digit targets and at least six receptions in all but one contest. He's struggled with inefficiency at times this season, but Olave is coming off his best game from a yardage perspective (six catches for 98 yards) in Week 6. Olave profiles as a solid fantasy WR2 in Week 7 against Chicago.

Kyler Murray Oct 17 2:40pm CT
Kyler Murray

When asked about whether Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray (foot) remains the team's starter, Cardinals general manager Monti Ossenfort said, "We're going to continue to try and get Kyler where he can get back to doing the things he can do on the field. When he's doing that, he'll be out there." Murray missed Week 6 due to a foot injury and is in danger of missing his team's Week 7 matchup against the Green Bay Packers. While Ossenfort implied that Murray will take the field once healthy, he didn't exactly provide a ringing endorsement of his 28-year-old quarterback. Murray has had an up-and-down season, completing 68.3% of his pass attempts for 962 yards, six touchdowns, and three interceptions across five games. With Murray sidelined in Week 6, veteran Cardinals quarterback Jacoby Brissett threw for 320 yards and nearly led the team to an upset victory over the Indianapolis Colts. Regardless of Murray's health status, it appears the team is at least exploring all of its options under center.

Puka Nacua Oct 17 2:30pm CT
Puka Nacua

Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua (ankle) has been ruled out for his team's Week 7 matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars due to an ankle injury. However, head coach Sean McVay said he is "very optimistic about hopefully having (Nacua) back" following the Rams' Week 8 bye. Los Angeles will host the New Orleans Saints in Week 9. Nacua has been dominant through the first six weeks of the season, recording 54 catches for 616 yards and two touchdowns on 65 targets. In his absence against Jacksonville, the Rams will likely rely on Davante Adams, Jordan Whittington, and Tutu Atwell (hamstring) to fill the void at wide receiver. Once Nacua returns, he should once again provide must-start fantasy production.

D.J. Moore Oct 17 2:20pm CT
D.J. Moore

Chicago Bears wide receiver DJ Moore (hip, groin) practiced in full on Friday and will not carry an injury designation into the team's Week 7 matchup against the New Orleans Saints, per Scott Bair of Marquee Sports Network. Moore has not missed a game since the 2020 season, so his impressive ironman streak will continue. The 28-year-old has recorded 19 catches for 215 yards and one touchdown on 26 targets through five games in 2025. Moore has yet to record more than five catches or 68 receiving yards in a game so far this season. He profiles as a low-end WR3/flex option for fantasy managers in Week 7 against New Orleans

From RotoBaller

D'Andre Swift Oct 17 2:10pm CT
D'Andre Swift

Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson said he is "hopeful" that running back D'Andre Swift (groin) will be healthy enough to play in the team's Week 7 matchup against the New Orleans Saints, per Chris Emma of 670 The Score. Swift has been limited in practice this week due to a groin injury. The 26-year-old has mostly dominated backfield snaps in Chicago this season, recording 447 scrimmage yards and three touchdowns on 85 total touches through five games. If Swift were unable to play, rookie running back Kyle Monangai would likely step into a workhorse role with third-year back Roschon Johnson possibly mixing in as well. Should Swift be able to give it a go, he profiles as a solid fantasy RB2 in Week 7 against New Orleans.

Calvin Ridley Oct 17 2:00pm CT
Calvin Ridley

When the Tennessee Titans welcome former coach Mike Vrabel and his New England Patriots back to Nashville on Sunday, they will be without top wide receiver Calvin Ridley (hamstring). Ridley has dealt with knee and elbow injuries over the past two weeks, but it is the hamstring injury sustained in the team's Week 6 loss to the Raiders that held him out of practice this week, and he has now been ruled out. In a week with headlines already swirling around Vrabel's return, the Titans fired head coach Brian Callahan after less than a season and a half at the helm and could have used a steadying presence on offense. While rookie Elic Ayomanor should see an increase in target share with Ridley sidelined, it's hard to trust any Titans pass catchers. However, for fantasy managers in a pinch, Chigoziem Okonkwo, coming off a six-catch game, could be a sneaky start against a Patriots defense that has struggled to defend tight ends.

Jerry Jeudy Oct 17 2:00pm CT
Jerry Jeudy

Through six weeks, Cleveland Browns wide receiver Jerry Jeudy has yet to top five receptions while averaging only 40 yards per game, and it's been even worse in his two starts with rookie quarterback Dillon Gabriel. Since Gabriel took over in Week 5, Jeudy has averaged 3.5 receptions and 29 yards per game. With an offensive line struggling in pass protection, the Browns have shifted to a short passing attack that does not play to Jeudy's strengths. Coupled with a week of limited practice participation, Jeudy can be left on the bench by fantasy managers when the Browns take on the Dolphins in Week 7. Even with a heavy slate of byes scheduled for Week 8, Jeudy is approaching cut candidacy in a limited Cleveland offense.

Deebo Samuel Oct 17 1:40pm CT
Deebo Samuel

Washington Commanders wide receiver Deebo Samuel Sr. (heel) was spotted at practice on Friday for the first time this week as he deals with the heel bruise that has limited his practice participation for weeks. Samuel has yet to miss a game this year, but when asked about his status for Sunday, he noted that the heel is "aggravating for sure" and "we'll just have to see." With his practice patterns not dissimilar from those of previous weeks, it would be a surprise if he is unable to go on Sunday, but fantasy managers should have a pivot lined up just in case. Teammate Terry McLaurin has already been ruled out for a fourth straight game, and in the three previous games without him on the field, Samuel has caught 18 of his 22 targets for 183 yards and two touchdowns.
